In 2024, prepare for the most dazzling dystopia to invade your world!

In a shattered world, a city lies beneath a protective dome. Inside, a handful of humans, shielded by a superintelligent AI, live fully immersed in their own realities. One day, an “unidentifiable entity” infiltrates this highly efficient city, sparking an unexpected adventure. As the journey unfolds within the dome, cracks begin to spread throughout the city’s once impenetrable structure, raising a fundamental question: Does the “perfect world” that humanity dreams of truly exist? When the adventure concludes and all questions fade, a dazzling dystopia, encompassing everything—both human and non-human—will engulf your world!

A well-crafted sci-fi play armed with robust world-building and vivid theatrical imagination.

Writer Shin Hyojin has meticulously constructed a grotesque yet lyrical sci-fi universe after nearly a year of development.

Director Kim Jeong, celebrated for his prolific work and refined directorial techniques, continues to captivate both audiences and critics alike.

This production marks the collaboration between a writer devoted to the sci-fi genre, known for creating a meticulously polished narrative, and a theater director acclaimed for his bold and imaginative directorial style. Instead of relying on cutting-edge stage effects or advanced visual technology, this tightly woven sci-fi play is brought to life through the pure symbolism and language of theater.

SYNOPSIS

Today, Rang turns fifteen. She lives in Zone A, the “core human survival area” reserved exclusively for Laizenoka employees and their families, with her “biological mother” Mimu, who prefers to be called by a neutral name rather than “mom.” Thanks to Laika, the superintelligent AI that safeguards the human city by enclosing it within a dome, Rang enjoys a peaceful and secure life. Laika reads books, monitors users’ health in real-time, manages pain to eliminate suffering, and provides perfectly balanced meals. It minimizes errors, and controls chance. Rang has been raised by Laika. This afternoon, she will undergo a connection procedure with Laika, marking her transition to “a production member” of society, and earning her a “two-letter name.” She will then begin contributing to Zone A as a valuable asset. However, Rang’s life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters elderly Peh, an “unidentifiable entity”.

[Changzak Gonggam: Writers] Writer No. 2 Shin Hyojin’s Everything

Dedicated to fostering up-and-coming playwrights and contemporary original plays, the [Changzak Gonggam: Writers] program is now in its third year. Writers Shin Hyojin and Park ji sun were selected through the 2023 open call and have since engaged in a comprehensive playwriting process that includes workshops, discussions, and monitoring.
Shin Hyojin’s play Everything was crafted through an in-depth exploration of generative AI, non-human entities, and machine learning algorithms. Set in a world on the brink of ecological collapse and extinction due to human impact, where superintelligent AI is fully integrated into daily life, the play raises profound questions about the true nature of humanity and the interconnectedness of all species.

Written by Shin Hyojin
Playwright Shin Hyojin offers a distinctive, clear, and compelling perspective not only on the human characters in her works but also on non-human entities. She has a remarkable ability to depict diverse entities that coexist in our world, imbuing her portrayals with a warmth that embraces both those marginalized by society and those alienated from humanity, while skillfully navigating the boundaries of the grotesque. Last year, two of her plays were selected for competitive funding programs and successfully brought to the stage. Shin remains deeply engaged with the themes of marginalized beings and is an active founding member of the playwright collective “Parentheses,” established to advocate for the rights of playwrights.
