offering a realistic portrayal of Korea’s modern history.
The lively performance of the cast of eighteen actors fills the revolving stage with vibrant energy.
We are not an extinct volcano, but an active one!
A quiet, rural village is transformed by a woman named Kim Jeong-sook.
Like a lantern flickering in the wind, she decides it’s time for her to step up in such precarious circumstances.
Jeong-sook does everything she can to revive the household and restore its prosperity.
Now she is a mighty flame, blazing and surging dynamically like an active volcano full of life.
Written by Cha Beomseok
Cha Beomseok was one of Korea's leading playwrights and theater directors.
In 1955, his play <Moonshine> was selected as the runner-up in the Chosun Ilbo New Writer's Contest.
The following year, he made his debut as a playwright with <Returning Home>.
Having experienced the Korean War in his twenties, Cha’s works were mainly characterized by a sense of satire and criticism of social reality.
His scope of works encompassed dance, musicals, opera, and musical theater.
His masterpiece <Burning Mountain>, known for its realistic portrayal of the fallacy of ideology and human desire, is regarded as a paragon of playwriting due to its solid dramatic structure and characterization.
Cha published a total of 64 plays. As a playwright and dramatist, he is recognized as a master of realism for his socially conscious and popular works.
