First showcased in 2020 as part of the program Celebrating the Summer Solstice: Hajimaji Nolgutpulgut, Dangkeulmaeda returns as a full production this year—a modern take on gut offering a deeply uplifting experience.
The versatile rhythms and unpredictable movements of gut are reborn as light and sound. As we immerse ourselves in the new experience, sweet breezes tickle our ears and eyes and whisper that spring is here at last.
Synopsis
The courtyard overflows with modern reinterpretations of the versatile rhythms of gut and colorful lights that visually embody the explosive energy and movements of the traditional rites. First introduced online in 2020 as part of the showcase Celebrating the Summer Solstice: Hajimaji Nolgutpulgut, Dangkeulmaeda is performed outdoor this time. Through the light and reinterpreted music of gut, audiences are invited to become part of the new creative world.
* Dangkeul: A sacrificial table placed in the center of the house and used for gut on Jeju Island
