April 9th, 1975. The incident of the People's Revolutionary Party and the execution of the eight.
Memories from a day which could not be recorded.
“I cannot clearly remember even the face of my father”
The son sinks deeply into the bath tub.
“I am afraid of the noise of shuffling papers.”
The unwashable scar is revealed as the thick steam before the eyes disappears.
“I can’t do it. I can never do it.”
Once again, the son sinks to the bottom of the bath tub.
★★★★★
Tragic but ‘beautiful.’
-Audience review for the public reading-
Author Jung-min Ahn’s <Solitary Bath> meets the audience as the third ‘Young Playwright’s Season.
Through a sensuous depiction of a painful history, the story, which crosses boundaries of dreams and memories, illusion and reality, stimulates a wound placed at the corner of your heart.
The story provokes you into thought and reflection and asks ‘Will you remember this wound as a seed for hope or leave it as a scar that can never be washed away?’
*People's Revolutionary Party Incident
The incident occurred on August 14th, 1964, in which the Korea Central Intelligence Agency claimed that 41 individuals, including those with revolutionary propensities, journalists, professors, and students, were attempting to overthrow the Republic of Korea by organizing a People's Revolutionary Party.
On April 9th, 1975, the Supreme Court of South Korea sentenced 8 individuals found to be guilty of being involved in the People's Revolutionary Party Reconstruction Committee to death. The Defense Ministry carried out the sudden execution of all 8 individuals less than 24 hours after the end of the trial. In 2007, 33 years after the execution took place, ‘the eight’ were found to be not guilty at a retrial.
