The tale of two sisters' escape from North Korea, traveling beyond reality and fantasy
This piece was acclaimed by overseas media due to a storyline as unique as its title. The journey of two sisters juxtaposes the two polarized worlds of North Korea and New York, and time passes differently in each place. The strange and mysterious tale of the sisters seems like a mixture of 'Alice in Wonderland' and Refugee Report. It’s a dazzling development that reminds the audience of a fantasy and a quick-witted imagination, and the sharp insight beneath it is enough to mesmerize the audience.
Director Park Hae Sung boldly tears down the wall between the stage and the audience, orchestrating the play and bringing a world of imagination onto the stage. Actors become members of this world and build magical moments. You will find the true value of this play just when an uncomfortable and painful reality reveals itself from behind the fantastical story.
Synopsis
"Across that border, years gallop by…while here, it’s barely been a day."
North Korean sisters Minhee and Junhee are torn apart at the border as they attempt to flee the “Best Nation in the World.” Junhee makes it to New York, the land of freedom, but Minhee falls into a well and remains trapped in a strange place that resembles the afterlife. Junhee learns to live as she navigates the perilous Land of the Free and her sister Minhee wanders to find things she had been trying to protect.
