“A ‘touching’ love story.” – The Korea Economic Daily
“The TYA play carries a rich sensibility which amply embraces even the adult audiences.” – The News Culture
The most romantic and pleasant love story you will encounter this spring.
A new and improved version of the romantic action drama <Ballads for Roxane> makes a magnificent return!
TYA drama <Ballads for Roxane>, a play adopted from the best love story on earth < Cyrano de Bergerac>, is coming back after two years since its premier, which brought down the house. At its premier, the “romantic action drama” well portrayed romantic love with an outstanding sense of rhythm. This resulted in an enthusiastic response and a series of sellouts. Greeting its audience in a bigger theater this time, the play will be an even greater display of dynamic acting with an exquisite sensibility. Actors will be all over the stage to present a thrilling action drama, while the rich and overwhelming melodies made by the violin, piano and percussions will add another layer of enjoyment. The month of May, in which spring pervades the air, is the time to be immersed in the blossoming love and romance that this romantic action drama <Ballads for Roxane> embodies.
“Back then, we were all fools. And we shined brightly.”
A journey of finding love, friendship and the truth, and an encounter with the true reflection of ourselves in the end.
Love! The topic that will forever be at the forefront of everyone’s mind! The <Ballads for Roxane> presents us with a question about true love and opens our eyes to see who we really are. While the original story centers around the heartbreaking love story of Cyrano, the <Ballades for Roxane> displays a wide spectrum of love by portraying four different colors of love through the lives of four different characters. Their journey of discovering love and their true selves is also a ballad for the youth, who are experiencing the feeling of love for the first time, and for those who used to be young at one time. How does love change and mature us? The journey of Roxane and the three men in <Ballads for Roxane> may be able to provide you with a small hint to how to answer this question.
Synopsis
Roxane, a bubbly and beautiful lady is surrounded by three men: young Count De Guiche, handsome cadet Christian, and Cyrano, who has always been there for her since childhood and also secretly been in love with her. De Guiche, a feisty young man, openly woos Roxane, while young gentleman Christian confesses his love for her through letters that are ghostwritten by Cyrano. After reading the letters, Roxane believes Christian to be her true love. However, he unfortunately ends up being sent out to the battlefield with Cyrano due to the vindictiveness of De Guiche, whose love had been rejected by Roxane. Cyrano makes a promise to Roxane that he will keep Christian safe… So, the question is: at the end of the day, who is her true love?
Original Story Edmond Rostnad <Cyrano de Bergerac>
Although the biographical details of the story are only true to a certain extent, the original focuses on the life story of Cyrano de Bergerac(1619-1655), a renowned French writer in the 17thcentury. Having its premiere at Porte-Saint-Martin Theater in Paris in 1897, the story portrays the romantic love of Cyrano, who never had enough courage to openly confess his love due to a sense of extreme inferiority about his abnormally big nose and thus had to disguise his love in the love letter which he ghostwrote for his friend. Cyrano, the main hero, is also a model of “D’Artagnan,” who is the main character in the novel <Three Musketeers>.
