Fervent responses to <Flying Boys and Girls KW4839>, <The Mackerel>, <I Don't Want To Die>!
TYA Research Center at National Theater Company of Korea presents
an extraordinary Global Theater for Young Audiences Project!
Portrait of lost and drifting adolescent youth
An odyssey for teenagers of this day and age
In this world of utter confusion, there are those who struggle to become special and those who struggle to simply become ordinary. The boy who searches for his guidelines from the world. A girl named Ji Young who searches for the meaning of her existence from her blood. Although they are from different times and spaces, these two lonely souls are mirrors and portraits of each other. On the journey to find their lost guides, the keen senses and moments that solely belong to adolescent times brilliantly come alive. We all have been crying out, "I'm fine“ hundreds of times only to avoid drowning alone in the deep ocean like a drifting polar bear among broken glaciers. Now, "Are you really okay?"
A 2 year-long TYA Project by a creative team from Korea and the United Kingdom!
The birth of a fantastical stage beyond your wildest imagination will rattle and dazzle your senses!
Two TYA playwrights, who represent Korea and the United Kingdom, have captured some stormy moments of adolescent times with their keen senses and poetic psychological descriptions. Peter Wynne-Willson, a veteran British TYA director, together with Yeo Shindong, a Korean director who presents a novel theater with his creative senses, turn the scenario into an astonishing stage on which the arts of mastery and originality coexist. Music Director Chang Youngkyu brings the work to life with music that gives distinctive sound waves and resonance. An exquisite connection of video, sound, and lights is added to complete the birth of this synesthesia-shaking theater which contains a more delicate and detailed story. The stage, which portrays the unbalanced world, proudly presents an outstanding ensemble: Actor Ahn Seungkyun, who gave fascinating performances in <Let Me In> and <I Don't Want to Die,> and superb Actors and Actresses Kang Jeongim, Choi Huijin, and Ahn Changhwan, and rising stars Jang Wonhyeok and Kim Minju.
Synopsis
The boy has seen the girl hundreds of times, and likewise for the girl. However, the two have never actually met. The boy is a son of an immigrant. While he feels for all the stories from his mother's country which he hears every day, there is nothing he can do about the situation. He tries hard to appear British for his mother, only to realize that no one cares to throw a glance at him. The only way to escape from this absurd reality is to immerse himself into playing war video games. One day, a girl appears in his life, who doesn't fit anywhere just like him. Today, he finally speaks to her...

Her father is a successful businessman, but she doesn't want to talk to him. Her mother left when she was three, and her grandmother from Jeju Island doesn't care to understand her. The only companion Jiyoung opens up to is the dressing table which belonged to her mother. One day, the dressing table disappears.
