Never award the Nobel Prize to Strindberg.
- Alfred Nobel
Strindberg, the Shakespeare of Northern Europe,
Invites you to the breathtaking scene of three men and women
August Strindberg, the father of modern theater who succeeded Ibsen and Chekhov. This problematic writer, who even challenged the authority of the Nobel Prize, gives birth to another provocative work that describes a perilous relationship between a man and two women. Through this black comedy, which is shocking enough that it would be believable even if it were to have been written today, the writer poses a significant question. The atrocious tale, unfolded by the dialogue between the daughter of a count and her servant, is steeped with the desire for class and sex. The audience will be fully engaged for 90 minutes while engrossed in utter suspense. And you will be the one witnessing the story of the three, whose risky relationship is treading on thin ice.
From Romania to France to Great Britain
Then finally to Korea, the ever-so-perfect <Miss Julie> has arrived!
Director Felix Alexa's <Miss Julie> that has caused quite a sensation all around the world will be gracing herself on stage here in Korea, showcasing her perfection for the whole country to see. Three Korean actors -- Yoon Jeong-seop along with NCT Korea's seasonal actresses Hwang Seon-hwa and Kim Jeong-eun -- successfully melt into the European mise en scene while realistic details create poetic images. Even before the beginning of the performance, the Count's kitchen is filled with the actual aroma of food cooked by Christine, apples, wine, and etc. The moment you walk into the theater, you will become one of the Count's kitchen staff as the aroma will captivate and enrapture your visual, aural and all other senses.
Synopsis
"Tonight, we'll lay down everything, even our positions, and just enjoy the party!"
On the eve of the midsummer festival, everyone is eating and drinking to their heart's content. Julie, the daughter of the Count, refuses to visit her relative's house with her father and decides to stay home, hang out with her servants, and dance with Jean, her senior servant. After dancing with Julie, Jean comes back to the kitchen where his fiance, Christine, is staying, and tries to control his sexual arousal when Julie comes in. An odd sense of tension mounts amongst the three as they begin to unveil their past and desires that they had been hiding all along.
