COME AND SEE ME, Celebrating its 20th Year with Special Performance at Myeongdong Theater!!
The stage play COME AND SEE ME, depicting the story of the unsolved serial murder cases in Hwasung, Korea, first performed by Yeon Woo Theater Company, at Seoul Culture & Art Center Small Hall(currently, Arko Arts Theater Small Hall) in February 1996, is celebrating its grand 20th year of performance in 2016.
COME AND SEE ME, based on the true story of a total of 10 serial rape and kill cases, tells a story on a basis of realistic crime data and bitterly explores the cases to cause a sensation. It was well received by both critics and audiences right after its first performance and won Paeksang Arts Awards for Playwright(Kim Kwang-rim) and Best New Actor in Theatre(Lee Dae-yeon) that year, followed by winning in Seoul Theater Festival for Play and Most Popular and Best New Actor(Ryu Tae-ho). After that, many star actors and actresses in Korea, Song Sae-byeok, Jin Kyung, Choi Jae Woong, and Choi Jung-woo, etc., got listed on the cast history and the play still continues its long-term big hit. In 2003, Korean film director Bong Joon-ho adapted this stage play into his film, MEMORIES OF MURDERS, taking a high spot of domestic box office rankings, seen by five million people.
COME AND SEE ME, one of Korea’s most representative stage plays, has seen its long-term hit for 20 years, even though the cruelty, lasciviousness, and hideousness, woven into the suspenseful plot of the investigation process, give the “on-edge” feeling of thrill to the audience- the satirical flow of the entire story and the perfect performance relax the tension from the elements of this play’s theme. Since its very beginning, the playwright Kim Kwang-rim had directed the play himself for about ten years, with two times of performance directed by the director Park Kwang Jung(1962-2008). It was followed by Byun Jung Joo, the former assistant director, who took on this stage play in 2006 and had been directing it until 2015.
COME AND SEE ME is now taking a new step for another 10 years ahead, appreciating its past glory of 20 years of performance. Kim Kwang-rim, the playwright and theatre director, has come back with the most ever-loved actors and actresses, Kwon Hae-hyo, Kim Roi-ha, Yoo Yeon-Soo, Lee Dae-Yeon, Ryu Tae-Ho, Hwang Seok-jeong, and Son Jong-Hak gathering back together on the stage to celebrate the play’s 20th anniversary. This special production celebrating the 20th anniversary at Myeongdong Theater, long-awaited by all staff members, actors, actresses and the audience, is now on the way to give you unforgettable memories.
Synopsis
In a dark night in rain,
a murder happens when the melody of Mozart's Requiem comes out of the radio!
Four detectives are here to investigate the serial murder cases, which are still on for months, committed by the same technique-
chief inspector Kim, who volunteered to come to investigate from Seoul,
detective Kim, a poet wannabe elite,
rich local detective Park,
and detective Cho, with martial arts level 9.
Three suspects, all of whom seem highly probable to the four detectives-
Lee Young-chul, a voyeur with a mental disorder, who just escaped out of a mental hospital and committed “them”
Nam Hyun-tae, who committed “them” drunken, but can’t tell his own dreams from reality
Jung In-gyu, who asked Mozart's Requiem to play to the radio station on every single night of the murders committed.
And two ladies with them-
Park, a passionate reporter of the Gyeonggi Paper and Miss Kim at Tea House Sook
Is the killer going to be identified in the end?
